ACD/ AADE Prize for Dental Journalism

The American College of Dentists (ACD) and the American Association of Dental Editors (AADE) Prize for Dental Journalism promotes excellence, ethics, professionalism, and leadership in dentistry through journalism. The prize is given to the writer, or writers, of the selected submission.

Recognition, Eligibility, & Requirements

1. Submissions will be judged for their anticipated impact on excellence, ethics, professionalism, or leadership in dentistry. Submissions that demonstrate depth of analysis of issues facing the profession are especially encouraged. All formats, including articles, editorials or reports are viewed as equal, although the work must appear in an AADE member’s publication.

2. The prize is awarded at the AADE Annual Conference

3. Eligible works must carry a publication date of the previous year (2010's award is for a 2009 publication).

4. A prize plaque is accompanied by a cash award of US$1000.

5. Works submitted to any other current year dental journalism competition will not be eligible for consideration.

6. Only one submission will be accepted per author; whole journal or collections are not eligible.

7. Nominations will be received from authors, editors, readers, associations and organizations.

a. A single photocopy of the work must be submitted.

b. The nomination must contain a statement of no more than fifty words stating what, in the nominator’s opinion, is the exemplary impact on excellence, ethics, professionalism, or leadership of the work. A sentence must also be included that “the nomination has not been submitted to any other 2010 dental journalism competition”. The nomination must also state that the author, or authors, of the work agree to its being considered for the prize.

c. Should no submission be judged exemplary, the jury reserves the right not to award the prize in any particular year.
